Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
ABOUT ORTHO-Gel™
Q: Does it sleep hot?
A: No. Unlike some other high-tech
materials, Ortho-Gel™ is heat neutral. It
is comfortable in summer and winter.
Q: Will Ortho-Gel™
take a body impression?
A: No. Ortho-Gel™ has been tested and proven
under years of use in homes and hospital situations. Although
it will soften very slightly over the first six months of use,
Ortho-Gel™ will always return to its original shape and will never
take a body impression.
Q: How does Ortho-Gel™
compare to Memory Foam (Visco-Elastic)?
A: We believe it's better. Visco-elastic foam has been around for many
years and was first developed by NASA. It was never designed
to be a sleep surface but rather a body conforming cushion to help
astronauts withstand the intense forces experienced during take-off
and re-entry. As a sleep surface visco-elastic foam has
several negatives that people tell us they don't like. First,
it has a high heat retention and therefore may tend to 'sleep hot'.
Second, it is heat sensitive, so that as the body warms the foam it
becomes softer and the sleeper tends to sink into it. Sometimes the sleeper feels like they are "in a trench", and it can be
difficult to turn over. The foam then takes several seconds to
rebound and come up to the sleeper's new position.
NexGel™ uses memory foam as a cushioning option, but never next to the sleeper's body. There is nothing better than Ortho-Gel™ next to the body! We do use it however as a subsurface which gives the bed a specific feel, giving the bed buyer another option for the perfect fit for their needs. Memory foam is particularly good under Ortho-Gel™ for people who prefer zero partner disturbance.
Q: How does Ortho-Gel™
compare to Air Products?
A: It's better. Older traditional air bag
technology operates under what engineers call the "spring constant"
law: the bed pushes back at you with equal force all over, which
creates pressure points. With air bags you can't have all
three of the sleep wellness elements (proper support, pressure
relief, and spinal alignment) together: you have to compromise
one for another. On the other hand, if you have the air bag on soft the mattress
'hammocks' and you lose spinal alignment.
Q: How long will Ortho-Gel™
beds last?
A: At least 20 years. Your new Ortho-Gel™ bed will
have a 20-year warranty, the best in the industry! The
Ortho-Gel™ material itself will long outlast the conventional
materials in the mattress even though they are the highest quality
available.
